چکیده

The aim of this work was to study the parameters of the composting process of organic wastes originated from mushroom production industry. To accomplish these objectives three piles (P1, P2 and P3) obtained with a spent mushroom substrate (SMS) with different proportions of wheat straw (WS) and urea were composted for 90 days in a static-pile system with continuous monitoring of the process. Samples from each pile were periodically taken to assess physico-chemical properties (pH, E.C., TOC, N, C/N ratio), organic matter and humification parameters. The comparative examination of results obtained for original substrates and final composts showed an increased stability and maturation degree of the organic matter, especially for the piles with a higher proportion of straw. All the piles achieved the stabilization and maturity levels required for a safe application of compost as a soil organic amendment. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Chemical, Thermal and Spectroscopic Methods to Assess Biodegradation of Winery-Distillery Wastes during Composting

The objective of this work was to study the co-composting process of wastes from the winery and distillery industry with animal manures, using the classical chemical methods traditionally used in composting studies together with advanced instrumental methods (thermal analysis, FT-IR and CPMAS 13C NMR techniques), to evaluate the development of the process and the quality of the end-products obt...

Microbial succession associated with organic matter decomposition during thermophilic composting of organic waste.

Using dog food as a model of the organic waste, thermophilic composting was carried out for 14 days at a fixed temperature of 60 degrees C. The relationship between organic matter decomposition measured by CO2 evolution during the bio-stabilization process and microbial succession expressed as the changes over time in the restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) patterns of 16S rDNA sequ...

Assessing the Stability and Maturity of Compost at Large-scale Plants

Four different tests to assess compost stability were compared during green waste composting in windrows at a largescale composting plant. The tests used were: germination index, (based on seed germination); SOUR (specific oxygen uptake rate, respirometric method based on O2 consumption by the microorganisms); self-heating test, (reflecting the energy output from the aerobic process); and Solvi...

Application of a Maturity-accelerating Reagent (MAR) to Food Wastes Composting Processes

In order to increase the degradation rate of organic materials and reduce ammonia emissions simultaneously during the aerobic composting period, a commercial maturity-accelerating reagent (MAR) was employed. Comparative composting experiments were conducted: Run A with the addition of MAR in the composting mixture, and Run B without the addition of MAR, while some parameters such as organic car...

Simulation of Carbon Dioxide Production during Composting of Agro-Wastes

Carbon dioxide production during composting of agro-waste can be taken as the indicator of rate, progress and termination of compost phenomenon and stabilization of organic matter, leading to a balanced compromise between complexity of mathematical model and extensive experimentation. Modeling and simulation of composting of agro-wastes based on experimentally measured carbon dioxide production...
